The Hardman Group has recently been selected to develop a new urban community in Saint John’s Uptown. Located on the waterfront in the heart of the City’s business district, the Coast Guard site is approximately six acres and is considered to be one of Atlantic Canada’s most prestigious waterfront development sites. The new development places emphasis on bringing the waterfront to Saint John’s residents and tourists and promises to encourage economic change, ensuring the region remains a competitive and desirable place to live, work, play and visit. The Request for Expression of Interest for the site was issued Canada-wide in February of this year with several interested developers from across Canada submitting proposals. Throughout the summer/early fall, the Board of the Saint John Development Corporation evaluated the submissions; with the Hardman Group’s proposal being the preferred selection. Overall, the $75 million waterfront project will be developed over ten years and will offer a diversity of uses including residential, office, new retail, commercial, educational facilities and a new hotel. The first phase will include a new hotel and condominiums on the waterfront as well as an underground pedway connection to Market Square. The redevelopment of the Coast Guard site project will be the largest development in the region since the development of Market Square 20 years ago. For more information, contact William N.
